Google's Nexus 7 tablet in short supply

When Google announced in June they were getting into the tablet business personally with their Asus-made Nexus 7 tablet, lots of people were apparently interested. The Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) device, with a quad-core processor and a very cheap $199 price tag for the 8 GB model has made the Nexus 7 tough to buy, at least for now.

Google has yet to say how many of the tablets it has made available for shipment. Having said that, ZDNet.com reports that according to a GameStop spokesperson, the retailer has already out of its first two shipments of the $249 16 GB version. The retailer plans to get a third shipment in August.

Other stores such as Office Depot, Staples and Kmart show that the Nexus 7 is either on back order or temporarily out of stock at both their retail stores and on their websites.

It looks like if you want a Nexus 7 sometime this month, your best bet is to order it online directly from the Google Play website. The $199 8 GB model is listed as shipping in "3-5 business days" after Google receives an order. The 16 GB model is simply listed as "Coming Soon" on the Google Play page. ZDnet.com reports that some 16 GB models are showing up on eBay, but they are priced between 20 and 30 percent over the normal $249 price
