Besides getting the latest Android updates first, the Pixel smartphones also offer the benefit of getting to upload original quality image and videos to Google Photos service for free.
During the launch event for the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, Google touted that those who purchased either handset would get free storage for original quality uploads. While this is quite impressive, it appears that there is a limit to such a wonderful perk.
According to the fine print, found on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL purchase page, the free unlimited storage of original quality images and video is only good until 2020. After that point, Pixel 2 owners will either have to pay for the service to maintain backing up in original quality or downgrade to the service that allows unlimited uploading of "high-quality photos," rather than original quality. Although 2020 is still quite some time away, it is still something to keep in mind when making your purchase.
The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are now available from the Google Store. The Pixel 2 starts at $649, while the Pixel 2 XL starts at $200 more. If you were interested in the "Black & White" variant of the Pixel 2 XL, you might be disappointed, as the handset currently remains out of stock.
