Gotham Knights skip last-gen consoles, new gameplay shows off Nightwing and Red Hood

It was back in 2020 when we first got a look at Gotham Knights, the latest Batman project by Arkham Origins developer Warner Bros Montreal. With a launch slated for October, the studio today gave another look at the cooperative action game, this time focusing on the Bat Family duo Nightwing (Dick Grayson) and the Red Hood.

The new open-world of Gotham the studio is building is shown off in detail in this gameplay deep dive. Each of the four heroes available come with their own style of combat, with Nightwing being more acrobatic while Red Hood utilizes mystical elements and (non-lethal) firearms for a ranged-focused experience. The remaining two heroes, Robin and Batgirl, should get their own showcase soon too.

This is meant to be a two-player cooperative experience, but the developer emphasized that solo play is definitely an option for the entire game. The UI is also said to be highly customizable for players" liking. As previously announced, the main villain group the Bat Family is going against is the Court of Owls.

Although it appears Batman is dead here also, keep in mind the storyline is not a continuation of the Arkham series by Rocksteady. Instead, this story is taking place in its own comic book universe. Rocksteady, meanwhile, is working on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, a cooperative action game of its own aiming for a 2023 launch after a recent delay.

While a last-gen console launch was definitely in the plans earlier, Warner Bros. Montreal has now decided to launch only on modern platforms, as spotted by VG247. Gotham Knights comes out on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 on October 25. The DC Un-set title originally had a 2021 launch window but, like many other games at the time, it was delayed out of the year.
