GTA V for Xbox Series X|S and PS5 lands March 15 with ray tracing and other enhancements

While confirming active development of the next Grand Theft Auto entry today, Rockstar also gave out new information about the enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto V for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. The long-time-coming update has a March 15 launch date now. The release got delayed last year with Rockstar saying it needed time for additional fine-tuning and polish.

On the latest generation consoles, the game will run at up to 60 frames per second with the resolution going up to 4K. Upgrades to textures, draw distance, faster load times, 3D audio, as well as HDR and ray tracing elements have been confirmed to be included. Of course, advanced haptic feedback will be available to PlayStation players via DualSense.

Previous announcements revealed faster vehicles thanks to the new SSDs that can keep up with the world data as well as seamless character switching in the single-player campaign. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players looking to transfer their campaign and GTA Online data will be presented with a one-time migration offer when launching the new edition.

Speaking of GTA Online, Rockstar has made improvements to the starting experience, where the story prologue can be skipped altogether. Also, players will be greeted with a new tutorial, a career builder for picking one of four illegal business (Biker, Executive, Nightclub Owner, or Gunrunner) for free, plus a healthy some of in-game funds for equipping themselves with a property, high-end vehicle, and firepower.

The GTA Online standalone version is also landing on March 15, though this will be available for free to PlayStation 5 for the first three months. Unfortunately, pricing information has not been announced yet for the new Grand Theft Auto V enhanced edition, the standalone GTA Online, nor upgrade opportunities from last-gen consoles.
