A standalone version of The Witcher 3"s addictive in-game card game, Gwent, was announced last year, featuring cross-platform multiplayer and a single-player campaign. While the game"s current open beta offers the multiplayer portion, the Thronebreaker single-player campaign was set to arrive at the end of 2017.
However, CD Projekt RED"s co-founder Marcin Iwiński announced some alterations to the game"s roadmap today. The biggest change is that the Thronebreaker campaign will now arrive in 2018, with Iwiński saying that the delay is due to the studio increasing "the campaign’s scope" and in turn, needing more time to work on it.
Iwiński apologized for the delay, and said that the additional wait will be worth it in the end:
Shifting release windows is always something we approach seriously, however, we’ll never hesitate to do it if we feel you’ll get a better game as a result. I would like to apologize everyone who planned to play Thronebreaker over the Holidays — I assure you that we will do our best to make the final game worth the additional wait.
Moreover, Gwent"s multiplayer portion will be receiving updates at a faster pace from now on, as it is slated to leave beta and launch in full next year. The updates will include new content such as cards, items, and challenges, in addition to the usual patches and balance changes.
