Halo Infinite Campaign co-op now aiming for late August, but without split-screen

Six months into the launch of Halo Infinite, 343 Industries has finally released a roadmap for the remaining months of 2022, showing exactly what the studio is working on and some timeframes. Unfortunately, Season 2 will be following the same six-month schedule as Season 1, instead of the original 3-month plans the studio had from prior to the game"s launch.

This extension means Halo Infinite Season 2 will run from May 3 to November 7. The two new maps and three new modes the free-to-play multiplayer portion is receiving at the beginning of the season were shown off in detail earlier this month. The studio is also committing to releasing monthly quality of life updates to address long-standing issues.

However, there is bad news for campaign fans looking forward to cooperative play support.

As it can be seen in the roadmap above, the freshly lengthened Season 2 schedule means that the studio is now targeting late August for online four-player co-op, a highly anticipated feature. The four-player campaign co-op was originally slated to land at launch but has been hit with delays constantly. Another complication is the lack of split-screen local co-op at launch of the feature, and it does not have a launch date on the roadmap yet.

It"s not all bad news, however, as Forge may be in the hands of players sooner than expected. 343 is planning an open beta of the extensive sandbox editor for September without waiting for Season 3 as previously announced. "We’ve successfully had Forge in private flighting with a limited audience for some time, so we’ve decided to forgo a large-scale formal flighting program and go right to open beta," said the studio regarding this change.

"We are committed to delivering more content faster; we will accelerate while prioritizing team health; you can expect QoL improvements during Seasons via Drop Pods—and you can expect more regular roadmap updates as our plans snap into sharper focus," added Halo Infinite creative head Joseph Staten.

Halo Infinite Season 2 Lone Wolves is dropping on May 3 on Xbox and PC.
