343 Industries gave an update today regarding the upcoming content seasons for Halo Infinite. While work seems to be progressing smoothly, there is some bad news about the highly anticipated campaign cooperative play feature.
In a blog post, Halo Infinite head of creative Joseph Staten said the four-player cooperative play support is now coming later during Season 2, not at the start of the season as previously announced. While originally planned as launch features with the game, both co-op and Forge were cut from the package to be added later as they needed extra time for polish. Forge is still on track to launch with Season 3 according to today"s blog.
"The reality is that it’s going to take more time to land a high-quality, full-featured 4-player network co-op experience in the massive, wide-open world of Halo Infinite," added Staten. "We’re also committed to a great 2-player split-screen co-op experience on all Xbox consoles, from the original Xbox One through Xbox One Series X—and the non-linear, wide-open sections of the Campaign present some big challenges for split-screen that have taken us more time to solve."
With the bad news out of the way, Staten confirmed the free-to-play Halo Infinite multiplayer is gaining two new maps with Season 2: Catalyst for Arena and Breaker for Big Team Battle. Last Spartan Standing, Land Grab, and King of the Hill are incoming as fresh game modes as well. More armor cores, a brand-new Battle Pass, multiplayer story events, major bug fixes and balance changes, as well as more Fracture events are also a part of the upcoming season.
Halo Infinite Season 2: Lone Wolves is releasing on May 3. Season 1 is not over yet though, and 343 Industries is kicking off the Tactical Ops event starting next week with Mark VII core-focused rewards. Moreover, the studio will be hosting public flights for Forge later in the year.
