Halo: The Master Chief Collection updates continue to land, and the latest major injection of features from 343 Industries comes in with Season 8. Titled Mythic, it has enhancements to the Firefight mode, custom games browser support for more titles, PC file share, a new map, modding tools for two more entries, and much more.
Starting things off, Halo 3: ODST"s Firefight wave-based mode has received a major upgrade, and now features per-wave enemy customizations akin to Reach. Players can also now enable Sentinels to be brought in via waves, and disable Covenant dropship spawns for faster waves.
The custom games browser has been a part of the Collection for some time now, but with today"s update, Spartans will be able to find custom games on Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 3 in addition to the previously available Halo Reach implementation. Players will find better creation, search, and filter options available to them as well.
Once again, the brand new map arrives from Halo Online"s coffers, with the Icebox arena stage now reaching Halo 3"s multiplayer playlists for players to compete in. Continuing the feature introductions, the long-time-coming PC file share for easier custom content sharing, view model adjustments to get more screen real-estate by adjusting weapon positions, and Steam account linking capabilities have also landed.
Other significant changes include restoring classic Halo: Combat Evolved HUD, putting back the lost sun in Halo 2 classic, a multitude of graphical bug fixes, in-game subtitles for Halo 3 and Reach, colorblind accessibility support, campaign customizations, player reporting, and a range of quality-of-life improvements.
The customization side is getting updated too, with various new armors, armor permutations, helmets, visor colors, poses, accessories, skins for weapons and vehicles, plus more being sprinkled across the available titles. These can be toggled off in the settings as usual.
Lastly, joining the Halo: Combat Evolved modding tools on PC are brand new tools for Halo 2 and Halo 3. 343 Industries is also working on bringing Steam Workshop support as well as mod support for the remaining games.
Keep in mind this seems to be the final seasonal content update to the game. Instead of bundling features and dropping them in bunches, 343 Industries is moving towards pushing out smaller updates that arrive when they are ready.
