This morning, Paramount+ revealed that the Halo show would launch exclusively on its streaming service starting March 24, 2022. The series will loosely follow the events of the games, but takes place in an alternate timeline where Master Chief and Cortana don"t randomly stumble upon the Halo ring that has the ability to destroy all life in the galaxy.
The first proper trailer for the show was supposed to premiere tonight during the AFC Championship Game, but it"s been posted to YouTube earlier than expected by the network. The trailer appeared on some third-party YouTube channels before that, so Paramount+ may have decided to release it early since it already leaked.
The trailer is bombastic and focuses on a lot of themes. There"s obviously the mystery of the Halo ring and the war with the Covenant, but the video also discusses the implications of the controversial SPARTAN-II program that kidnaped children and raised them to be controllable soldiers. That"s not all though.
When Master Chief activates an unknown alien device, it alters him in some way. And, last but not least, the other characters — especially rebels who are engaged in a civil war with the current Earth government — don"t trust Master Chief or SPARTAN-II soldiers in general because they were initially designed to squash rebellions around Earth"s unruly colonies. There"s a lot going on, including themes of free will and if SPARTAN-II soldiers still have their humanity.
The visuals of the trailer are superb, but Cortana"s new look may be a little controversial to longtime fans of the games. Despite that, the Halo show looks intriguing and Twitter is abuzz with excitement. Finding the Halo ring seems to be the main focus of this season of the show.
