Hands-on with Razer's Kishi controller for Android

This week, Razer officially launched the Kishi, its new take on mobile gaming controllers, after first showing it off at this year"s CES. Now, the company has sent us one, and we"ve had the chance to spend some time trying it out.

The Razer Kishi is pretty unique among gaming controllers for smartphones in a couple of ways. For starters, it connects to a smartphone via USB Type-C, instead of Bluetooth. The biggest advantage is that there"s virtually no input latency, since there"s a more direct and reliable connection to the phone. Of course, it also means that you can only use the controller when it"s attached to a phone, while Bluetooth controllers can work from a distance.

Another positive for the Kishi is that it can be attached to many different phones. That can be a notable advantage over something like the Junglecat, which requires a special case to be able to attach to the sides of a phone - and Razer only officially sold four different cases, so only four phones were supported. The Kishi supports any phone with a centered USB Type-C port, as long as it fits the recommended dimensions.

The Razer Kishi for Android costs $79.99/€89.99, but there"s also an iOS model that costs $99.99/€109.99. You can watch our hands-on video below.
