BlackBerry had a banner year in 2017. TCL managed to take the reigns of an ailing company and resurrected it with fervor leading the charge with the KEYone. With the handset selling great and the company expanding it to new regions, it was only a matter of time before it would start offering something new.
The BlackBerry Motion made its debut late last year and looks quite different from the KEYone, shedding the physical keyboard. Despite most manufacturers focusing on aesthetics and going for an incredibly sleek look with curved displays, the Motion manages to keep things simple, with its hard lines. Now, this isn"t a bad thing - when you pick up the Motion for the first time, you can feel the DNA of BlackBerry coursing through its metallic shell - and it feels quite good.
The front has a 5.5-inch display with a functional click button below it with an embedded fingerprint reader. The fingerprint sensor is also flanked by capacitive buttons, which is something you don"t see too much of these days. The majority of the rear utilizes a carbon fiber weave pattern that is soft to the touch and adds a subtle flair to the device. The rear also houses the 12MP camera with LED flash.
What comes as a surprise is that this is a phone you have to feel to really understand. Although it has an understated look, it"s quite sleek in its own way and feels incredibly sturdy. For those that were holding out for a BlackBerry Android handset without a keyboard, the Motion is probably your best best. The phone will be made available from Amazon and Best Buy in the United States for the first time starting on January 12 and will retail for $449.99.
