Harmonix working on "three or more” new, original games

Rock Band and Dance Central developer Harmonix is keeping itself very busy. The Boston-based company already has two announced games in the works. One is Rock Band Blitz, a download-only games that"s due for release this summer for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The other is Dance Central 3, the Kinect Xbox 360 exclusive next game in the best selling dance game series that"s coming later this fall.

However, Harmonix has admitted that it has a lot of other upcoming games that it hasn"t revealed yet. In its most recent official podcast, the company admitted that it has "three or more" future games in the works. In addition, all of these games are original titles.

Harmonix brand manager and communications director John Drake said during the podcast that while some of their unannounced games are music-based, others are not "full-on rhythm-action games." He added:

Some of them are brand new things that we created from our guts and brains here at Harmonix. Some of them are sort of like things we’re explaining the universe of. It’s not Amplitube or Frequency. I’m not talking about Rock Band 4. I’m not talking about the next Dance Central game. I’m talking about new, crazy stuff.

The company has bounced back from its low point in late 2010 and early 2011, when its previous owner Viacom sold off Harmonix and the company laid off over 10 percent of its employees due to the poor sales of Rock Band 3. The sales success of the first two Dance Central titles have rejuvenated the developer.
