Yesterday, Microsoft released Windows 10 for PCs Insider Preview build 15019, bringing a number of gaming features that were much-anticipated, and more. Unfortunately, some Insiders ran into issues when attempting to install the build. Luckily, Microsoft is offering some solutions.
Jason Howard of the Windows Insider Engineering Team posted two issues to the Answers forum. The first is if you receive an error when trying to install, such as 0xC1900401. This can affect any x86 version of the OS, and there"s no workaround right now; however, Microsoft is fixing it, with Jason saying the following:
There was a snag in the publishing pipeline. No manual efforts are required by Insiders. We have found the publishing issue and are remedying it. You may scan for updates occasionally and as the update for your particular country/region is published, you will be able to download accordingly.
The second issue is one where Windows Update says "initializing" and doesn"t appear to be doing anything. We had this problem on a few of our PCs, and it eventually went away on its own. Microsoft says this can happen to any Insider (but not all), and there is a workaround:
Click the Start button
Type services and launch the Services panel
Scroll to Windows Update
Right-click and select Stop
Restart your PC
Re-check for updates
The update should proceed as expected
There was also a workaround in a previous build that involved turning off Delivery Optimization. Jason says that if the above steps don"t work, try turning off that feature.
Naturally, Microsoft would appreciate your feedback on this, to make sure everything is working. You can reply to the Answers post, or leave a comment in the Feedback Hub.
