Here are the prices for all Surface Laptop configurations; 1TB model "coming soon"

Today, Microsoft unveiled its new Surface Laptop - but it wasn"t quite as affordable as some had imagined it might be, given its focus on the education sector. The device even comes with Windows 10 S, a new edition of the OS that can only install apps downloaded from the Windows Store, and which was also unveiled at the company"s education-focused event today. However, Microsoft will be offering buyers a free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro until the end of the year.

Microsoft announced that Surface Laptop pricing would start at $999 for the entry-level model, but it didn"t go into much greater detail than that. Now, though, the company has opened pre-orders for the device in the US, revealing prices across the range:

Processor RAM Storage (SSD) Price Color options
Intel Core i5 4GB 128GB $999

Platinum

Intel Core i5 8GB 256GB $1,299 Platinum
Burgundy
Cobalt Blue
Graphite Gold
Intel Core i7 8GB 256GB $1,599 Platinum
Intel Core i7 16GB 512GB $2,199 Platinum

While most models will begin shipping on June 15, the Intel Core i7 version with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD won"t be available until August 15.

During its event today, Microsoft"s Panos Panay said that the Surface Laptop would come with "up to 1TB" of storage onboard - but there"s no sign of that option on the company"s website, with 512GB as the current maximum storage available. However, a Microsoft spokesperson at the event told Neowin that a 1TB model is "coming soon".
