HERE Maps is the mapping and navigation division of Nokia, which was native to Nokia Windows Phone devices providing voice-guided navigation and mapping. It is immensely useful for it"s offline capabilities and because it works in more than a hundred countries including the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
HERE Maps was previously exclusive to Nokia devices but after Microsoft"s purchase of the company"s Devices and Services division, Nokia has focused more on developing hardware and applications for Android which lead to the debut of the Nokia N1 tablet, Z launcher, HERE maps for Samsung Galaxy devices and then eventually HERE for Android.
HERE Maps was available as a beta application for Android in late October and officially launched on the platform a few weeks ago. Nokia has now announced that in the 12 weeks since the app"s release on Google Play, the app has had a staggering 2.5 million downloads, also stating that:
Many of you know us for the Android app we recently released on here.com and Google Play. In 12 weeks it has been downloaded almost 2.5 million times. In many countries it’s the top app in the Travel & Local section and it’s been featured by many blogs as one of the best Android apps of 2014. We’re grateful for this groundswell support and we’re happy to receive your feedback and suggestions.
The app also has 37,609 ratings in the store and enjoys a healthy rating of 4.4. You need Android 4.1 or above to download the popular application which you can download it via Google Play here.
iOS users needn"t worry as the HERE team announced in December that HERE for iOS is also expected to make an appearance sometime in 2015.
