Back in 2015, WhatsApp moved from being just a mobile-only platform as the company launched its own website. Since then, WhatsApp for Web has gone through several improvements and changes, and the web experience is now somewhat similar to the app. However, it still lacks one important feature– dark mode.
If you are a fan of dark mode then you will have to wait for a while for the official support as the company is still developing dark mode for the web. However, you can follow the steps below (Via WABetaInfo) to temporarily enable dark mode on WhatsApp for Web:
- Go to web.whatsapp.com and right-click on the empty space outside the chat. Click on "inspect". Alternatively, you can also press ctrl+shift+I to open browser console.
- Press ctrl+f to find body class="web” string.
- Double click on "web" and add "dark" to it so the string becomes body class="web dark".
- Hit enter to apply the string and WhatsApp Web will use now the dark theme.
Do note that this will just be a temporary solution as refreshing or closing the browser will restore back the original code. That being said, you can use the aforementioned steps again to enable dark mode after closing or refreshing the browser window. If you want a more permanent solution then you can check out Stylish which lets you customize websites to your liking.
There is no word on when WhatsApp will roll out dark mode for the web users. For now, you can either enable dark mode every time you open the WhatsApp Web or use the app which received the support for dark mode earlier this year.
