Here's what's new in the first Skype Insider Preview builds

Earlier today, Microsoft introduced the Skype Insider Program. The idea is the same as the company"s various other preview programs, in that it will allow users to test out pre-release versions of the app and provide feedback on it.

If you sign up for the Program, you"ll have the option for preview builds for macOS, iOS, Android, or Windows. All that was released today were builds for the former three operating systems.

Here"s what"s new in Skype for Mac version 7.40 (7.40.76.158):

  • updated options tabs for call forwarding and voicemail
  • emoticon search enabled
  • update message for partially blocked users i.e. update message to help user to fix the account

There"s also a known issue:

  • Screen share of a single window will crash the client.

For Skype for iOS version 6.28.106 (6.28.76.106), the changelog is much less exciting:

  • Bug fixes

Finally, Skype for Android provides a rather cryptic changelog:

  • #716761:HA TOP CRASH: android.text.PackedIntVector.getValue

If you want to sign up for the Skype Insider Program, you can do so right here. Aside from the four choices of platforms that it offers, there"s also a section to write in an option, with suggestions such as Linux and Xbox.

If you"re looking for previews of Microsoft"s UWP Skype Preview app, you"ll need to be a Windows Insider on the Fast ring to get them. The last update for that app was released on October 27.
