Samsung’s Galaxy Note line has been quite successful over the years. It doesn’t sell as many units as the regular Galaxy S flagships, but Note devices usually come with Samsung’s latest and greatest technology, not to mention a huge screen and pen, making them attractive for many users.
That’s why Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 6, likely to actually be named the Galaxy Note 7, is quite a big deal. And today we get to see it for the first time thanks to a leaked press image and quick video.
Steve Hemmerstoffer, also known as OnLeaks, has posted what appears to be an official press render of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Alongside the image, there’s also a very short video seemingly showing the real device.
As previously rumored, the Note 7 looks to have at least a variant that comes with curved edges, identical to the screen found on the Galaxy S7 edge. Even though a device with a standard screen was also expected to be launched at the same time, OnLeaks claims this is the "regular Note6/7"; that would mean a curved-edge device might be the only Note variant this year.
This isn’t the first time Samsung has launched a Note device with a curved screen. The original Galaxy Note Edge came out back in 2014 and only had one curved edge, which Samsung hoped would offer users a new way of interacting with their devices quickly. Unfortunately, the original Note Edge failed to gain much traction and at the time, the curved screen was considered by many to be little more than a gimmick.
But the dual-curved displays of Samsung"s recent Galaxy S-series flagships have grown in popularity, and so far the Galaxy S7 edge has proven to be a great device. Perhaps the new Note 7 edge will be similarly received once it launches.
And speaking of launch windows, the Galaxy Note 7, is expected to be unveiled at the start of August, with well-known leaker Evan Blass mentions August 2nd as the event date. In terms of specs nothing is official just yet but the Note 7 is rumored to be feature 6GB of RAM, USB Type C port, a dual-rear camera, microSD support and waterproofing.
As mentioned though, all this information, while it comes from reliable leakers, has so far been unconfirmed officially so take everything with a grain of salt.
Editor"s Note: This article was updated to include the longer video showing off a render of the Galaxy Note 7.
