Android 10 has been available for a little over a month for Pixel devices, and HMD Global, the company responsible for Nokia-branded phones, has started delivering on its update promises. The firm had revealed its roadmap for the Android 10 update back in August, and it promised that the Nokia 7.1, 8.1, and 9 PureView would get the update in the final quarter of 2019.
Today, the company has begun to deliver on that promise with the release of Android 10 to the Nokia 8.1. The device was included in the Android beta program for Android 10, so it"s only natural that it would be the first to get the stable release as well. The announcement was made by Chief Product Officer at HMD, Juho Sarvikas, on Twitter.
As for what"s new in this update, there"s not much room for guesses, since HMD uses a standard version of Android that stays pretty close to Google"s own. The big new features with Android 10 are a system-wide dark mode, new gesture navigation, Live Captions for videos, and more. You can read more about the changes in Android 10 here.
With the Nokia smartphone now upgraded to Android 10, the Nokia 7.1 and 9 PureView should be next on the list. The recently-released Nokia 7.2 and 6.2 should also get the update fairly soon, since they were launched after Android 10 was officially released.
