HMD Global has confirmed that all of its Android handsets will be receiving the update to Android O. The firm that has become the backbone for Nokia devices has been making sure to keep things up to date with its products, which is important, considering that some companies have let their handsets fall by the wayside.
HMD Global currently has three Android handsets on the market, the Nokia 6, Nokia 5, and Nokia 3. The Nokia 6 made its debut towards the beginning of the year in January, while the Nokia 5 and 3 were announced at Mobile World Congress 2017. The aforementioned handsets have received quite a bit of attention, but have yet to land in the United States and other regions.
Google announced Android O back in March. The mobile OS has been in Developer Preview for the past few months but has recently been made available in beta form for a handful of handsets. The OS promises huge improvement to app performance and also battery life while also streamlining the development and release of future Android updates, thanks to Project Treble. It is currently unknown when Android O will arrive on handsets officially, but it will most likely arrive when a new Google device is launched towards the end of the year.
