At CES this year, the Nokia brand finally reemerged with handsets made by HMD Global, as the Nokia 6 was announced. It wasn"t exactly a flagship though, since it was powered by a Snapdragon 430 chipset, and the Nokia 3 and 5 were even lower end.
But today, HMD Global finally announced a flagship phone in the Nokia 8. Unsurprisingly, it uses the latest chipset from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 835, which means that it supports gigabit 4G LTE, and more.
Both of the two rear camera lenses and the front camera is made by ZEISS, as was shown previously in leaks. The Dual-Sight feature allows users to live-stream split-screen video from both the front and rear sensors, which HMD Global says is a first in a smartphone. The company shamelessly said that it"s not a selfie...it"s a Bothie.
One feature that seems interesting is that the 13-megapixel front camera includes phase detect autofocus. Most front cameras are fixed-focus, and even the ones with autofocus don"t have phase detect, which should allow for it to focus quickly.
The handset isn"t only trying to innovate with video capture though, as the phone utilizes OZO Audio by combining three microphones "with exclusive Nokia acoustic algorithms to capture audio with immersive 360° spatial surround sound." The firm says that high fidelity playback will even work on devices that don"t have OZO.
