HMD unveils its “life-proof” Nokia XR20, starting at €449

HMD Global has announced a selection of new phones today including the Nokia 6310, Nokia C30, and most notably the Nokia XR20 which the firm describes as “life-proof” because of the work it has put in to make this phone resistant to spills and falls. To demonstrate the toughness of the Nokia XR20, HMD worked with former Brazil football star Roberto Carlos to put the device through its paces.

The Nokia XR20 is one of HMD Global’s more expensive phones but the firm ensures you get your money’s worth. It has promised to support the device with four years of monthly security updates, and three years worth of Android upgrades – it will launch with Android 11 so the final upgrade you’ll get on the Nokia XR20 will be Android 14. In terms of hardware, it’s packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G CPU, 128 GB of internal storage, and 6 GB of RAM.

According to HMD, the Nokia XR20 can withstand extreme temperatures, drops of up to 1.8 metres and an hour or so underwater. It also comes with the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, which HMD describes as one of the “toughest of glass out there” so you should be able to avoid scratching your display.

The Nokia XR20 also features a 48MP+13MP dual camera with ZEISS Optics, OZO spatial audio and “innovative imaging solutions” such as SpeedWarp mode which lets you create a montage. HMD says the Nokia XR20 pushes the boundaries of mid-range devices with its 5G speeds, 15W wireless charging, and its durability.

The Nokia XR20 is available today in select global markets in Ultra Blue and Granite colours. There are two variants a 4/64 GB option and a 6/128 GB option but which ones you can pick will depend on your market. To check whether you can buy it, head to your local Nokia.com website.
