Honor officially reveals its Magic 2, topping out with six cameras

A couple of months after being teased at IFA Berlin, Honor has finally officially revealed the full details of its latest handset, the Magic 2, offering a nearly bezel-less display coupled with a slider design.

Although the sliding design would have been the talk of the town for this release, since its initial reveal, competitors like Lenovo and Xiaomi have also shown off phones with a similar mechanism, making the design choice seemingly not as fresh as it was a couple months ago.

Regardless, the phone does pack quite a bit of power under the hood, utilizing Huawei"s Kirin 980 processor combined with a minimum of 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. If you decide you need more RAM and storage, Honor has you covered offering an 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage model, along with an 8GB RAM and 256GB storage version.

The front display will be a large 6.39-inch 1080p AMOLED variant which the company says accounts for 91.5 percent of the front of the phone. To put this into perspective, the Samsung Galaxy S9+ display occupies around 87 percent. As mentioned before, the Magic 2 is able to achieve this by removing the front-facing camera and some sensors and putting them on a separate plane, that slides up from the rear. When it comes to the security of the phone, it will be handled by an in-display fingerprint reader, which works by placing your finger on the display in a designated area, at which point it will unlock the phone.

As far as the cameras go, there are quite a bit, with the rear offering three different sensors: a 16MP standard lens, a 16MP wide-angle, and a 24MP black and white sensor. The front also packs three cameras, offering a 16MP and two 2MP sensors. Honor, of course, includes a bunch of AI-assisted features for the cameras, like simulated portrait lighting effects, just as it has delivered in the past.

The handset has a 3,500mAh battery that can take a quick charge from the included 40W charger, which will plug into the phone"s USB Type-C port. Unfortunately, Honor does not include a 3.5mm headphone jack but does offer an adapter. The phone will arrive in three colors, black, blue and red, all of which will offer a nice gradient, which has become quite popular since the release of the Huawei"s P20 Pro.

The 6GB model will come in at ¥3799 or around $544 USD, while the 8GB model with 128GB of storage will arrive at ¥4299, coming it at around $616 USD. Finally, the top end model with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage will cost ¥4799 or around $687 USD. You can pre-order the units now and it has a release date for November 6.
