Last year at Mobile World Congress 2016, HP excited the Windows phone fanbase by announcing the Elite x3, a "3-in-1" device that could serve as a phone, laptop, and a desktop. The company didn"t officially unveil a second-generation model this year, but it did have one on display.
You can see from the image above that there are a number of design changes. For one thing, the placement of the front camera is now on the left of the speaker, whereas the original model had it on the top-left corner. It also appears to have a thinner bezel.
Perhaps most surprising is that the speaker grille at the bottom is missing. HP uses Bang & Olufsen speakers in all of its premium products these days, so the lack of front-facing speakers feels like a change of pace for the company.
You can see that the chassis has changed as well. There"s a new antenna implementation at the top, which might indicate an all-metal body.
Unfortunately, other than the changes to the design - which were spotted by PCWorld - we don"t know anything else. Our Managing Editor Andy Weir headed down to the HP booth at MWC to see if he could check out the device, but it was no longer there and employees weren"t even willing to talk about it.
The handset is obviously a prototype, so it"s always possible that anything could change by the time it"s released.
