HP today announced new gaming laptops from its OMEN lineup and a new Victus by HP brand. The company says that the Victus by HP brand is a “next-generation mainstream-level gaming PC portfolio”. The first offering comes in the way of a 16-inch gaming laptop. On the OMEN side of announcements, there are two new devices – the OMEN 16 and OMEN 17, with the latter being the top-of-the-line offering.
The firm says that the OMEN 17 sports “desktop-grade gaming” thanks to the option to spec the gaming machine with up to an Intel Core i9-11900H processor. The device can be had with up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 GPU that can be configured to draw up to 165W of power. Other specs include the option to spec the device with up 32GB of RAM and 1TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD for fast read and write speeds, a welcome improvement for games. In addition to the specs, the firm is boasting improved thermals to complement the powerful specs, which also helps reduce the keyboard deck temperature by up to 5 degrees Celsius.
The OMEN 16, on the other hand, can be configured with Intel or AMD chips. Users that want to go the Intel route can spec the device with up to a Core i7-11800H along with a GeForce RTX 3070 GPU. The AMD-powered models can be had with up to a Ryzen 9 5900HX along with an RDNA 2-based GPU. RAM and storage configurations are identical to that of the OMEN 17.
Interestingly, both the OMEN 16 and 17 come with support for RAM and SSD expansion slots, accessed via a panel at the bottom of the device. Unsurprisingly, the devices come with a Thunderbolt 4 port for full Thunderbolt capabilities. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6E, although the company cautions that the spec might differ depending on the market it is being sold in.
Both laptops come with a QHD resolution display with a 165Hz high refresh rate IPS panel, making them ideal for gaming. The displays cover 100% of the sRGB color gamut and are also Eyesafe certified for reduced blue light emissions while maintaining color accuracy.
Next up is the new Victus by HP 16, a device that the firm calls a “younger sibling to the pro-ready OMEN brand”. The brand aims to offer users an “accessible, yet elevated, gaming experience”, likely hinting at the relatively more affordable price tag. The device sports a new logo at the back and can be had in mica silver, performance blue, or ceramic white.
As the name suggests, the gaming laptop features a 16-inch QHD 165Hz panel, which the firm says fits in a 15-inch footprint, thanks to the thin bezels. It can be configured with up to an Intel Core i7-11800H or an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H. Graphics duties are carried out by a GeForce RTX 3060 “Laptop” GPU or an AMD Radeon RX 5500M unit. The device can be specced with up to 32GB of RAM and 1TB of fast PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage. The Intel versions of all three laptops can also be configured with dual SSDs in RAID 0 configuration.
The OMEN 16 and OMEN 17 are both expected to be made available in June. The OMEN 16 starts at $1,049.99 and the OMEN 17 will set users back by at least $1,369.99. The Victus by HP 16 starts at an asking price of $799.99.
In addition to these devices, HP also announced its new OMEN 25i Gaming Monitor. The PC maker says that this is the “first ever OMEN gaming monitor to feature HP Eye Ease with Eyesafe certification” for reduced eye strain. The monitor is compatible with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-SYNC and offers features such as a 165Hz high refresh rate, VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification, and 8-bit color. While the firm did not mention the resolution specifics, Tom"s Hardware got their hands on the device and report that the panel is a 1080p one.
The OMEN 25i Gaming Monitor starts at $349.99 and will be available from July.
