Today, HP is announcing all-new laptops from its mainstream EliteBook 800 series, along with new ZBook Firefly mobile workstations. They all include things like Intel"s new 11th-generation "Tiger Lake" processors, which add things like Iris Xe graphics and Thunderbolt 4, 4G LTE or 5G connectivity, built-in Tile, and more.
Some of these features first showed up in HP"s Elite Dragonfly, including 5G and Tile integration. If you"re unfamiliar with Tile, it"s a product that helps you find your stuff. Normally sold as a tag that you can attach to something like your keys, this one is actually built inside of a laptop.
"Our continued collaboration with HP is all about giving users and IT departments peace of mind," said CJ Prober, CEO of Tile. "Tile comes pre-installed on these devices and is easily activated to ensure you never have to wonder where your laptop is."
While the new EliteBook 800 G8 series comes with Tiger Lake processors, HP notes that vPro variants will be available in January, something that Intel has not announced. This is notable, because 10th-generation vPro machines had to come from the 14nm Comet Lake family; there were no vPro chips from the 10nm Ice Lake family. That means that the upgrade here is even more significant, because you"re getting Iris Xe graphics over regular old UHD Graphics.
Specifically, the three new laptops are the EliteBook 830, 840, 850, and x360 830, with the numbers indicating the screen size and x360 indicating that it"s a convertible. The larger EliteBook 850 G8 comes with optional Nvidia GeForce MX450 graphics, and the x360 830 comes with the rechargeable Active Pen G3.
Next up is the ZBook Firefly, which comes from HP"s mobile workstation department. It has the same processors, and it has a Pantone Validated DreamColor display. Pantone Validated means that it can recreate the full range of Pantone colors. You can also get it with the Nvidia T500 GPU with 4GB GDDR6 memory, and HP is promising 2.6x the performance of the Dell Precision 3550.
"High-performance solutions that keep people connected and productive are essential for remote work," said Sandeep Gupte, senior director of Professional Visualization at NVIDIA. "NVIDIA T500 in the HP ZBook Firefly G8 will enable graphics-intensive work in an ultra-compact form factor, no matter the location."
All of these new PCs are expected to be available this month, and pricing will be announced closer to availability.
