HP will complete a review of its PC business division, which is still the world"s biggest seller of desktops and laptops, in about 8 to 12 weeks. That"s the word from HP"s PC business head Todd Bradley in an article in Reuters. Last week, HP announced it was looking into the possibility of either selling off the PC division or spinning it off into its own separate company. Bradley said this week that after HP reviews the division " ... we will sit down with the board and take them through the results."
Bradley, who has led the PC business of HP for the past several years, indicated his desire to remain with the division, saying, "At the time of whatever action is determined with the PC business, then if it"s a spin-out it will be my intent to lead that. If it stays within HP, I plan to continue to run it." Meanwhile, Digitimes is reporting via unnamed sources that Samsung might be interested in acquiring the HP PC business. The report claims that Samsung has contacted a number of notebook makers asking if they could outsource notebook orders.
Even as this review is progressing, HP continues to release new PC models. On Monday, the company officially announced the launch of the HP Compaq 8200. This is an all-in-one desktop that"s designed specifically for business with features like a built in Blu-Ray player, up to 8 GB of RAM and more. Pricing for the HP Compaq 8200 starts at $999.
