Last week, HP didn"t seem capable of selling any of its HP TouchPad tablets. Now the device has become the hottest consumer electronics product almost overnight, and all it took was a combination of HP shutting down production of the TouchPad while also selling the remaining units at rock bottom prices. At the moment, Amazon.com is showing that the 16 GB and 32 GB versions of the HP TouchPad are the retailers number one and number two best selling electronics products.
As we reported earlier, HP quickly cut the price of the TouchPads to $99 for the 16 GB version and $149 for the 32 GB version following its decision on Thursday to no longer sell the device. It also made the decision to give people who bought the TouchPad before Thursday a way to either get the price difference paid back or even get a full refund. Engadget is also reporting that UK residents will also get access to the same fire sale prices for the TouchPad.
HP hasn"t said yet what kind of support it will be giving people who purchase the TouchPad, although it"s not expected to have much in the way of user support. In the meantime, PCWorld.com has a list of online retailers where you might still be able to purchase one of the tablets. The best bet at this stage might be HP.com itself. While their inventory is currently sold out, HP has promised that a second batch of TouchPads will go on sale later this week. You can be notified via email when these tablets go on sale if you sign up at HP"s web site.
