HP has unveiled its new Pavilion x2, the latest in its range of low-cost Windows PCs, incorporating a "super thin tablet" that can combine with a detachable keyboard to offer a notebook-style experience.
The company says that the device is "designed for productivity and optimized for entertainment", and it features a latchless magnetic connector that allows the keyboard to be easily attached and detached as needed.
The new Pavilion x2 includes these key specs:
- 10.1-inch WLED Display with WXGA (1280x800px) resolution
- Quad-core Intel Atom Z3736F processor
- 2GB RAM
- 32GB/64GB storage options (plus microSD card slot)
- Bluetooth
- Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
- B&O PLAY audio enhancements with two speakers
HP"s press release states that the Pavilion x2 will be available on July 21, which means that it will launch over a week before Windows 10 rolls out. Curiously, Windows isn"t referenced at all in the press release, but going by the product page on HP"s store, it appears that the device will go on sale with Windows 8.1 onboard. Given that Windows 10 is scheduled to launch just eight days later, this seems like an odd choice.
The Pavilion x2 will be priced from $299.99, which includes the keyboard, and will be available in "Blizzard White", "Turbo Silver" and "Sunset Red" color options. As an added bonus, you"ll also get a free one-year Office 365 Personal subscription with the device, worth $69.99.
