HP has already announced plans to offer Windows 8-based tablets for business use months ago. Earlier this year, we received a render, from an anonymous source, that showed HP"s early design for a x86-based Windows 8 Pro tablet for the enterprise market. Now HP has confirmed that it won"t offer a tablet that will run on Microsoft"s Windows RT, at least not right away.
Bloomberg reports that, according to a statement from an HP spokesperson, "The decision to go with x86 was influenced by input from our customers. The robust and established ecosystem of x86 applications provides the best customer experience at this time and in the immediate future."
The decision by HP means that there might be less to choose from when it comes to tablets that will run on Windows RT, which will use ARM-based hardware. Microsoft has already announced that its newly revealed Surface tablet will be released in its Windows RT form first later this year, with the Windows 8 Pro version arriving three months after the Windows RT hardware.
The HP spokesperson said today that the company"s move not to offer a Windows RT-based tablet was made before the announcement by Microsoft of Surface.
