The era of the Windows phone is nearly over. Microsoft"s lineup of Lumia handsets have long been abandoned, and the only two devices left for sale in the Microsoft Store are the HP Elite x3 and the Alcatel IDOL 4S with Windows 10. The IDOL 4S has been heavily discounted for some time, and you can get it with bundled VR Goggles for $169.
The HP Elite x3 usually floats between its regular price of $799 and a promotional $599 price tag. Today though, Microsoft has marked it down to an unprecedented price of $299, which is $500 off of its normal price.
The so-called 3-in-1 PC - branded that way because it could be used as a smartphone, and as a laptop and desktop with Microsoft"s Continuum feature - doesn"t have very powerful specs compared to what you"d find in a modern smartphone. Announced over two years ago, it uses Qualcomm"s Snapdragon 820 chipset, and comes with a 5.96-inch WQHD AMOLED display, 64GB of internal storage, and 4GB of RAM.
The bundle that now costs $299 also comes with the Desk Dock, which you can use to connect the device to an external monitor, as well as various USB peripherals.
HP"s Elite x3 is one of few devices that are eligible for the Windows 10 Mobile Fall Creators Update. While it continues to receive monthly cumulative updates, there will be no more feature updates for the device.
If you want to check out the HP Elite x3 on the Microsoft Store, you can find it here. There"s no expiration date on the new pricing, so it would seem that this price cut could be permanent.
