HTC is once again posting depressing financial statements, as its profits shrunk even further in Q4 of 2013. However the company is looking optimistically towards the future.
Despite the decline of its profits the Taiwanese company is confident it can change its fortunes around in 2014. HTC said they are rethinking their strategy once again and focusing a lot more on the middle segment of the market.
Despite critical success and praise for its 2013 flagship, the One, HTC failed to gain market traction and financial stability. This year the company will focus a lot more on mid-range handsets instead of premium devices, hoping this will lead to increased sales. Peter Chou, the company’s CEO in a statement:
We will continue to stay focused on making the best smartphone and building a compelling mid-range portfolio. Meanwhile, we are going to communicate better with consumers.
However that’s not to say HTC is ignoring top of the line devices. As Chou said, they are looking forward to launching “the best smartphone”. This flagship handset, codenamed M8, has been making the rounds online with numerous leaks and rumors hitting the wire.
HTC is also reportedly looking at launching at least one wearable device by the end of the year and they’re even supposedly in the running to build Google’s new Nexus tablet, showing that despite all their troubles HTC may still be an important player on the field.
We’ll have to wait and see if the company can turn its fortunes around or if it will fade into history, like so many others have.
