Back in November, a couple of weeks after Google unveiled Android 5.0 Lollipop, HTC confirmed that its flagship One M8 handset, and its One M7 predecessor, would get the update within 90 days. However, as its self-imposed deadline passed by yesterday, HTC has now admitted that it will take a bit longer than planned to roll out the update.
HTC actually began to push Lollipop to the One M8 last month, but only to Google Play, Developer and Unlocked editions of the device. However, carrier versions of the M8 - along with all One M7 models - are still awaiting the update.
Mo Versi, Vice President of HTC Product Management, says that the company has been working closely with both Google and its carrier partners, but reminded users that "Google has had to address several issues with this release". He added that they are "diligently working to fix some of them on our end and incorporating Google"s fixes as quickly as possible", but conceded that the company has missed its 90-day target.
Unfortunately, there"s no firm date for when owners of the One M7 and M8 should expect to receive the update, as HTC is clearly keen to avoid making further promises that it may not be able to keep. Versi explained: "We are taking every precaution to ensure the rollout is right and we aren"t willing to compromise at your expense", adding that the company hopes "to have good news to share soon" on its progress.
