HTC Proto images appear online

HTC rode the wave of success after the successful launch and reception of handsets such as the HD2 and the original Desire. But times have since changed. The sales of the HTC One range have been disappointing in some regions and profits have been falling over the past year. Add in competition from the Samsung Galaxy SII (and more recent SIII) and the iPhone, it is clear HTC aren’t having the best year of their business life.

But the show must go on! With recent hints that Windows Phone 8 devices will be unveiled towards the end of September, it’s time for yet another Android powered handset to show its face online.

Codenamed the HTC Proto, it’s been touted as the successor to the current HTC One V. We’ve put together short a table showing both handsets, comparing specs and design.

On paper, apart from the screen size, both devices are almost identically spec’d out. But it’s what is under the hood that will make the difference. The chip has been changed from a Snapdragon single-core S2 to a dual-core S4, which should increase the level of performance from the CPU and GPU while maintinaing battery life at the same time.

After the rumoured successor to the One X was reported on two weeks ago, it looks like HTC are wasting no time in trying to steady the ship in the run up to the holiday season.
