HTC has a press event scheduled for Feb. 19, when it will likely reveal smartphones with camera improvements.
World Mobile Congress is just around the corner, and though HTC won"t be taking part, it has an event of its own scheduled. And now, in anticipation of that event, the company is teasing an announcement of a "new sound and camera experience" for smartphones later this year.
In an infographic released on its website, HTC pokes fun at some of its major rivals – such as Apple and Nokia – and the lack of advancements made in the smartphone camera realm. The infographic hints that the announcement won"t simply relate to a camera capable of taking higher resolution pictures, however. HTC mentions the fact that the iPhone 4S didn"t feature an increased image sensor size, despite improving its camera, possibly hinting at its plans.
Of note is the fact that all the HTC devices the infographic mentions are Android phones, likely meaning whatever the company is teasing won"t relate to its Windows Phone plans.
HTC will host press events Feb. 19 in both New York City and London instead of attending this year"s World Mobile Congress.
Update: Multiple media outlets are citing a Pocket-lint report that says HTC will unveil an "Ultrapixel" camera in its rumored M7 Android-powered smartphone. According to Pocket-lint, HTC"s hint of an increased image sensor size was telling, as the website claims the M7"s camera will "be made up of three 4.3-megapixel sensor layers combined to give a resulting single image." The combined image will produce a "crisper, cleaner image" with better color accuracy.
Pocket-lint"s report doesn"t mention what HTC may be teasing in terms of its audio announcement.
