HTC has had a difficult couple of years, with serious losses, the sales failure of its One M9 flagship, the sales disappointment of its latest 10 flagship, and seemingly endless delays to its wearable devices. The company hasn"t helped itself with its product range either - it launched a new version of the One A9 that was inferior to the previous model; then it released the Desire 10 Lifestyle with a processor that originally appeared on devices three years ago; and most recently, it announced the high-end Bolt, with the outdated Snapdragon 810 SoC.
So it came as very little surprise when Chinese site MyDrivers reported that HTC was planning to ditch its troubled mobile business to focus on other products, such as its Vive virtual reality headset.
But HTC has refuted claims that it"s preparing to sell its phone division. A spokesperson for the company told TechRadar: "HTC strongly denies this rumor."
The Taiwanese tech giant will be staying the course in the smartphone market, then - and that"s certainly good news for Google. While HTC"s Android device sales are far smaller than those of market leaders like Samsung and Huawei, HTC is the manufacturer of Google"s flagship phones, the Pixel and Pixel XL, which launched last month.
