Although HTC skipped notched displays for its latest mid-range Desire 12 smartphones, it seems the company will be embracing the trend for the U12 Life smartphone that could launch in May.
According to a tweet posted by Evan Blass earlier today, the mid-range U12 Life will feature a notched display, a trend that has picked up steam since the launch of the iPhone X despite its debut on the Essential PH-1 last year.
HTC is rumored to announce its U12+ flagship smartphone in May, and similar to past launches, the mid-range U12 Life could also be announced at the same time by the Taiwanese firm. The design change for the Life variant could be an interesting move from HTC, as previous versions such as the U11, U11 Life, HTC 10, and 10 Lifestyle have shared a similar overall design while featuring lower hardware specifications than the flagship.
The company has yet to announce official plans to release a standard U12 but if it eventually does launch, it will be interesting to see whether that device will feature a notch as well. We should know more about the company"s upcoming devices in the lead up to the launch in a couple of months.
