Yesterday, news circulated that HTC was preparing to launch its new flagship Windows Phone device sometime soon. According to another report, "soon" is less than a month away.
A report by Windows Phone Central claims the HTC One (M8) for Windows will launch on Aug. 21 at Microsoft Store retail outlets. The report claims Microsoft Stores have a "planning date" of Aug. 20 and that the full price of the phone without a wireless contract will be $610, though it will likely cost about $200 with a wireless contract.
The report further states that the phone will indeed have a case that displays information such as the time and weather, like its Android counterpart. That case will work thanks to the forthcoming GDR1 update for Windows Phone 8.1, which brings the ability for developers to create phone covers that use information from the devices they"re attached to.
The One (M8) for Windows will be HTC"s first Windows Phone device in more than a year; its last device for Microsoft"s smartphone operating system was the HTC 8XT for Sprint. Prior to that smartphone, its only Windows Phone devices were released to coincide with Windows Phone 8"s launch in 2012. The One (M8) for Windows should replace the Windows Phone 8X, HTC"s previous flagship smartphone for Microsoft"s mobile OS.
