Tether has now launched a new program designed to offer iPhone users a way to tether their devices to PC and Mac laptops and use them as WiFi Internet modems. Tether"s solution is a web-based HTML5 service. It will also work with jailbroken iPhones as well as iPads.
The biggest advantage to this service is the price. Tether normally charges its users $30 a year for being able to turn your iPhone or iPad into your own Internet connection for your laptop. That"s a huge savings compared to what wireless carriers charge for the same service, which is between $20 and $30 a month. This week, Tether is giving new users an even better deal. At the moment, you can sign up to use the service for just $15 for the first year.
Tether previously launched their service for Blackberry smartphones in 2009. In 2010 it added an app for Android users and since then it has signed up over 500,000 users for those two platforms. The company boasts that it offers speeds that are faster than its rivals, even with USB Internet sticks. It also can be used anywhere in the world on any smartphone wireless carrier.
