Huawei announces Honor 9 Lite for western markets

In addition to opening up the flagship Mate 10 Pro for preorder at a small press conference in London, Huawei has announced the launch of its new mid-range offering in the Honor 9 Lite for western markets. The phone was previously announced for the Chinese market in December and sports similar specs to the Honor 7X (the red variant of which is currently on sale) although the front-facing camera has been significantly improved and now adds a secondary 2MP camera to the mix.

The Honor 9 Lite sports the following specifications:

Display: 5.65" FHD+ (2160x1080p), 18:9 aspect ratio FullView Display
Camera: Dual-lens 13MP + 2MP front-facing cameras, dual-lens 13MP + 2MP rear-facing cameras with an LED flash
RAM: 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM
Storage: 32GB of storage which can be expanded with a microSD card
Battery: 3000 mAH
Miscellaneous: Fingerprint sensor
Operating System: EMUI 8.0 skinned version of Android 8.0

The unique selling point of this phone comes in the front-facing cameras and the accompanying customized "beauty algorithm" which makes eyes pop and cheeks glow. The cameras have 16 levels of wide aperture and a portrait mode is be available as well. The hardware level depth-of-field allows users to adjust the focus of a picture after the picture has been taken. On the back, the cameras also sport an HDR mode, faster phase detection autofocus and a "Good Food mode". The phone will be priced at €229/£199 in European regions.
