Huawei"s Honor brand unveiled its latest high-end handset this week, and the company is keen to emphasize that it will offer top-notch support for the device. The Honor 8 is the latest in a growing number of premium smartphones offered at affordable prices, and it"s already made a good first impression on us.
Huawei"s Taylor Wimberley said today that "Honor is committed to providing the best possible experience" for its customers. With that in mind, the company has committed to:
- at least one new update with new features every three months for the first year after launch;
- a total of up to 24 months of feature updates after launch;
- security and software updates delivered in a timely manner; and
- continued "safety and security updates" beyond the first 24 months,
...for the Honor 8, and for all future Honor devices.
There"s clearly a bit of room for interpretation in Honor"s commitments there - for example, what constitutes "a timely manner" for delivering security updates? While some manufacturers, such as Samsung and LG, release security patches for many of their Android devices every month, Motorola has said that it"s too "difficult" to do so, leaving its handsets without the latest security fixes for months at a time.
Still, it"s certainly a positive step for Huawei to make these commitments, promising buyers of Honor devices that it will give them "the best and safest possible experience" that it can.
