The Huawei P10 and P10 Plus were announced a few months ago at Mobile World Congress 2017. While both are impressive handsets with top of the line specifications, it seems that the firm is using different types of memory chips in the two, which affects their performance. This was reported a couple days ago, and now Huawei has finally chimed in on the subject.
Huawei has confirmed that it is using different memory modules on its latest handsets, the P10 and P10 Plus. The firm goes on to say that it has done nothing wrong, and has not falsely advertised the capabilities of its handsets in any of its marketing materials. Furthermore, it “has employed the standard industry practice of sourcing solutions from multiple trusted suppliers to ensure a balance between user experience, quality, and sustainable supply”.
What is unfortunate is that since this a random scenario, there is no way to isolate which handsets will be faster without prior testing. In essence, if you are in the market for the P10 or P10 Plus, you"ll have to run tests to see what kind of memory your unit is using. This is not an ideal or even a possible scenario for some.
