Over the past year, Huawei has been on a mission to further its brand by offering its handsets on a much larger scale. The company ended 2015 on a high note with its Nexus 6P and started 2016 by debuting its Mate 8 at CES and later offering its P9 and P9 Plus. While there have been rumors and leaks over the past couple months in regards to something new, Huawei has now officially unveiled its latest handset, the Mate 9.
Unlike its predecessors release, the Mate 9 won"t be a singular release, but will instead be offered in two forms: the Mate 9 and the higher-end luxury variant, the Porsche Design Mate 9. Both will offer some similarities, but will also have some very notable differences.
At its core, the two devices will be powered by Huawei"s latest Kirin 960 processor. The handsets will also offer its "machine learning" system, that the company says will ensure your handset stays snappy over time. Both devices will offer a second-generation Leica camera system with a 20MP monochrome sensor and 12MP RGB sensor that offer optical image stabilization and video recording at 4K.
As for the display, the Mate 9 will offer a 5.9-inch 1080p IPS LCD coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage, while the Porsche Design variant will offer a 5.5-inch curved QHD AMOLED display with 6GB RAM and 256GB storage. Both devices will have a large 4000mAh battery that should be able to offer two days of battery life and can be quickly charged via its USB Type-C port. Lastly, the Mate 9 will run Huawei"s latest EMUI 5.0, which features new enhancements and will be built on top of Google"s Android 7.0.
The Mate 9 will be offered in black, Space Gray, Moonlight Silver, Champagne Gold, Mocha Brown and Ceramic White for €699, and the Porsche Design model will come in Graphite Black for €1395. They will be sold in the following markets:
- China
- Malaysia
