Huawe"s Mate 30 Pro is a smartphone that I"ve been waiting to get my hands on for a while. Announced back in September, it includes the company"s new Kirin 990 chipset, which means that not only is it faster, but it has new camera features like 4K 60fps video capture.
And frankly, I really do love Huawei"s hardware, particularly its cameras. The P30 Pro absolutely blew me away last year.
My hotel room in Paris the evening of the P30 Pro launch. Lights off. Left is shot on P30 Pro, right is shot on iPhone XS Max. It"s one thing to watch them demo these things, and it"s another to see it in real-world performance. pic.twitter.com/ts3wOIST0Z

The Mate 30 Pro also just has a stunning design, which you can see in the image above. It"s just a pleasant phone to look at and to use. It"s got a 6.53-inch 2400x1176 Flex OLED display with an 18.4:9 aspect ratio and DCI-P3 HDR support.
It also packs extra sensors into the notch, similar to what Apple"s done with its iPhone lineup. There"s a 3D depth camera, a proximity sensor, a gesture sensor, and of course, a selfie camera. All of this adds up to better facial recognition, better selfies, and more.
Not only does it come with a 40W charger, but it supports 27W wireless charging as well. And yes, Huawei did send me its SuperCharge Wireless Charger.
Of course, the device does not come with Google Play Services, thanks to the current political climate. It has Huawei Mobile Services instead, and I"m looking forward to trying that out. I"ve always claimed that if the hardware is good enough, I"d be happy to live without Google services, and I suspect that may be the case with the Mate 30 Pro.
