Samsung and LG have already played their cards when it comes to its upcoming flagship smartphones, but Huawei is set to unveil the next generation of P-series handsets on March 26 in Paris. The first teaser hinted at greatly-improved zoom capabilities for the handset, and these have now been confirmed in an interview with Android Central.
Clement Wong, Vice President of Global Product Marketing for Huawei, said that the P30 Pro, the higher-end model of the P30 family, will have a periscope-like camera that will grant it "super-zoom" capabilities. Unfortunately, that statement comes without a figure, but rumors have been pointing to 10x zoom, which would indeed be a pretty big jump from what we"ve seen in recent smartphones.
The company has been teasing the camera on the Chinese social network Weibo, and one of the pictures shown is of the moon in what seems to be pretty impressive detail for a smartphone camera. Huawei says that the shot was taken using just the new device, meaning there was no editing or other accessories involved.
In addition to super-zoom, Huawei is also looking to make further improvements to low-light photography. The Mate 20 Pro already featured a Night Mode that got some attention, so any improvements to that will be a nice bonus.
The result of these improvements is yet to be seen in full, but we should have a clearer idea once the phone is announced on March 26.
