Last year, Huawei unveiled its new fitness wearable, the Watch GT. Offered in two variants - Sport and Classic -, the smartwatch utilized the Chinese giant"s own wearable software in favor of Google"s. In our review of the device, Rich Woods noted that although Watch GT came with some great fitness tracking capabilities, battery life, and performance, it did miss out on some key smartwatch features.
Now, what is deemed to be the refreshed version of Watch GT has been leaked by WinFuture, showcasing some images of the device in different colors, alongside some rumored specifications. Codenamed "Latona", the new smartwatch is expected to be launched as Watch GT 2 running Huawei"s own operating system, instead of a Huawei Watch series model powered by Android Wear.
As can be observed, it looks like the edges around the display have slightly reduced in size, featuring an overall more compact design. Moreover, a larger display has been opted for this time around, coupled with what looks to be a thinner body. As specifications regarding the device"s dimensions have not been uncovered yet, the aforementioned assumptions have been made on the basis of comparison between features shown in the current images versus those of its predecessor"s.
With regards to specs that have been leaked, the Watch GT 2 is expected to pack a slightly larger 445mAh battery - as opposed to the previous model"s 420mAh one. More importantly, however, the fitness wearable allegedly includes an integrated microphone and a speaker now as well. If true, this would mean that calling capabilities would be provided, something not offered with its predecessor. Aside from that, it does seem like already-existing features will not be substantially tampered with.
Rumors also indicate that the smartwatch may be announced at the IFA 2019, which begins later this week on Friday, September 6. As was the case with the original model, the Watch GT 2 will probably be offered in the form of "Sport" and "Classic" variants as well.
