Earlier this week, Huawei unveiled its latest smartwatch, the Watch GT 2 Pro. I"m in love with it already, and I"m not surprised, because over the last 10 months, the Watch GT 2 has become my smartwatch of choice for any mobile platform. And as the Pro moniker suggests, this one is better.
Starting with the design, it"s just sexier. One of the ways I gauge that is just by showing products to friends, and watching their reactions. This is one of very few products that people have commented on, completely unsolicited. It"s stylish, but it also doesn"t look like other products on the market from popular vendors.
It also has wireless charging, a first from Huawei. That"s a big deal for me, and it"s something I"ve always appreciated from Apple and Samsung. Pin charging is more popular and easier for an OEM to do, but those pins get dirty after a while, and charging gets more complicated. Wireless charging is superior, not that you have to charge this very often with up to two weeks of battery life. I"ve been wearing the one Huawei sent me for about three days, and it"s down to 76%.
Huawei is also promising pro fitness tracking, although I thought the GT 2 was pretty pro on its own. It has over 100 workout modes, "pro-grade fitness data tracking", new modes for skiing tracking, and TruSeen 4.0+ heart rate readings.
Huawei Health has always been among my favorites for fitness tracking, and that"s a big part of the reason I prefer a Huawei watch. It provides insights that others don"t offer, and compared to Google Fit with Wear OS, I"d take Huawei Health any day. In fact, Huawei also announced the Watch Fit, which actually provides guided workouts. I can"t wait to check that one out as well.
