During its IFA Berlin 2018 presentation, Huawei took some time to tease the arrival of its upcoming handsets from the Mate 20 line. The event will take place next month with a location set for London.
Huawei took the stage during IFA Berlin to announces its latest SoC, the Kirin 980. The company has been focusing a lot on AI, since introducing its first SoC with a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) last year. The firm is doubling down on the technology, literally, by now delivering a processor with two NPUs.
The Kirin 980 is based on a 7nm chipset and offers features that outclass Qualcomm"s current top-end SoC, the Snapdragon 845. While Huawei is top dog for the moment, Qualcomm is slated to officially announce its Snapdragon 855 SoC in the coming months.
The Mate 20 will be the first handset from the company to offer its latest SoC. The company revealed that the new Mate 20 series will make its debut on October 16. This would most likely mean that the Magic 2, which also is powered by the Kirin 980, will debut sometime after the Mate 20"s reveal date.
