Huawei's Mate 30 series may be revealed on September 19

Huawei"s second flagship series of smartphones may finally be revealed next month, says Russian website hi-tech.mail.ru. The site cites Dr. Wang Chenglu, the President of Software at Huawei"s Consumer Business Group as saying the company will be showing off the Mate 30 line in Europe on September 19.

The phones will undoubtedly feature the recently announced EMUI 10, though if a Mate 30 Lite is in the offing, some rumours suggest this might be the first Huawei phone to feature its homegrown HarmonyOS. The latest comments from Huawei executives suggest they"re sticking with Android for the foreseeable future, though, leaving the identity of the OS powering the Mate 30 Lite a bit of an mystery.

Under the hood, hi-tech.mail.ru suggests the phones will be powered by the as-yet-unannounced Kirin 990. The chipset will be the next iteration of the high end of Huawei"s Kirin SoCs, and will feature even better energy efficiency. Interestingly, previous rumours about the phones suggested the chipset powering them would be the Kirin 985. If an official reveal is slated for as soon as next month, we"ll likely solve this enigma once Huawei details the future of its SoC lineup.
