Huawei's Mate 30 series might launch without Google services

Huawei has struggled to enter the U.S. market with its smartphone business for some time, but the U.S. Department of Commerce made the issue much worse for the firm back in May. It added Huawei to its Entity List, forcing U.S. companies to stop doing business with the China-based firm.

While we knew that Google was one of the companies that"s not allowed to do business with Huawei, it was confirmed in a report by Reuters today that the company won"t be able to use Google Play services on its upcoming Mate 30 handset. That means that Huawei will have to use an AOSP (Android Open Source Project) build, using its own Android app store. There won"t be any Google Play Store, Gmail app, or even a YouTube app.

Moreover, Reuters has reported that more than 130 applications have been submitted to the Department of Commerce by companies to continue their business with Huawei, and not a single one of them have been approved.

U.S. President Donald Trump has cited security concerns as a reason for not doing business with Huawei, claiming that the company could have ties to the Chinese government, a claim that the firm has strenuously denied. Trump also has said that a trade deal with China could resolve the issue.

The lack of Google services would be a major blow for Huawei"s premium Mate 30 handsets, and it"s a major blow for California-based Google, which won"t make money from Android licenses on phones made by the second largest smartphone manufacturer in the world (behind Samsung).
